What is the MobileEye digital Video recorder? MobileEye onboard digital video recorder (DVR) is a computer especially adapted for the mobile environment that allows video images to be saved to its hard drive. MobileEyes digital recording typically results in higher quality video than conventional VCR based systems and eliminates the need of VCR tapes and frequent maintenance, making the MobileEye onboard recording system a cost effective in-car solution. Is MobileEyes digital video recording protected? Yes, MobileEye uses MPEG II as a file format; this file format is very secure. However MobileEye goes an extra step by overlaying a watermark, making all its video very secure from any alteration. How do I retrieve the video from MobileEye? MobileEye makes downloading video extremely easy. It offers a network port allowing you multiple methods of video retrieval. Some of the common methods are: wireless connection, network cord to plug into recorder, connecting a laptop directly to the recorder. How long will MobileEye record? MobileEye comes standard with a 60GB hard drive, with this amount of storage it averages around 50 hours of continuous recording. However by having recording triggered off the light bar, wireless mike, and switch you only record triggered instances. For example: your department averages 20 traffic stops per day, and each stop averages 10 minuets per stop, that’s 200 minuets per day. That’s 3 hours per day based on that average you would get 20 days of recording on a 60GB hard drive What happens when MobileEyes hard drive becomes full? MobileEye gives you two methods of dictating how to respond to a full hard drive. You can either tell it to stop recording or have it record over what’s on the drive. When it recorders over the hard drive it deletes the oldest recorded data and replaces it with the new. What is pre-recording? MobileEye is equipped with a pre-record feature, this feature allows the recording of up to 20 seconds before a trigger was activated (light bar being turned on, mike being switched or record button being activated.) An example of this would be an officer is at an intersection and sees a vehicle go through a stop sign, he starts recording after the vehicle is through the light. The recorder actually records up to 20 seconds before the recorder was activated, so upon playback you would see the vehicle going through the stoplight. Is it protected from someone tampering with the video? MobileEye has 2 levels of passwords on the recorder the supervisor and the operator. The supervisor is able to restrict who has access to the system settings. What is duplex operation? Duplex operation is the ability to record and playback video simultaneously
